(Editor's note: This article is adapted from the statement that Sheriff Clarke will release Tuesday morning.)

Yesterday’s above the fold, front page, devoid-of-fact story about me, again demonstrates this lame-stream media agenda-driven vendetta against any local elected official that dares not tote the liberal agenda line….

The story that appeared in Monday’s edition about a black female command staff member was in fact neither new, nor true. I ordered the investigation and referred it to the district attorney’s office for criminal charges. They made a determination that what she engaged in was not criminal.

Captain Nancy Evans has not been promoted after this, and she received a demotion from the rank of Major.

Second, a transfer in assignment is NOT a promotion. I move command officers around frequently.

Bice and Diedrich know that transfers in assignments are not promotions, but why let the facts get in the way of a story? Drama and sensationalism have more value to this liberal rag than accuracy. Journalistic integrity and the Sentinel Journal should never be mentioned in the same sentence.

Bice once told me that, "editors like to insert Clarke’s name in the headline because they know people will read it." That they have to cajole people into reading their newspaper is telling. What in Monday’s story is new? Once again, the Sentinel Journal has dragged out the circumstances surrounding Captain Evans in order to recreate a new narrative out of an old story. By doing so they have abdicated their responsibility to be accurate, fair, unbiased and truthful all because they cannot get me, (the black conservative sheriff, no less), back on the plantation of liberal orthodoxy.

It is one thing for the liberal writers at the Sentinel Journal to go after me. As an elected official I am fair game. But for them to use a black female member of my command staff to accomplish it demonstrates that their ethical and moral elevator has no bottom floor....

This newspaper has a reputation in Milwaukee’s black community of displaying what the black community perceives as unfair coverage about the black community, and a negative bias toward black elected officials as well. This bothers the Sentinel Journal editors. Whether it is a valid claim, I’ll leave up to readers, but as they say, it is what it is. The black community does not trust this newspaper. Neither do many others who won’t drink the liberal Kool-Aid. That this newspaper would continue to attack this black female command staff member is evidence of what the Left calls the War on Women.

You can draw your own conclusion. A demotion of a command staff member is not only a loss in pay, but in rank and standing among her peers. Captain Evans accepted responsibility.  Continuing to reuse this story is nothing more than an attempt by Sentinel Journal editors and storywriters to get blood from this black female, while trying to disparage Sheriff Clarke.

It’s a two-for-one opportunity. Ernie Franzen, Dan Bice, Steve Schultze, John Diedrich and the rest of their cabal have done no such thing in covering state assemblywoman Christine Sinicki (white female), whose record of legal troubles would have sunk most elected officials; or County Executive Chris Abele (white male), who was arrested for drunk-driving and let the offense turn into a warrant and sit for seven years, taking care of it only when he decided to run for elected office; or state senator Christopher Larsen (white male), who was arrested for retail theft; or Graeme Zielinski (white male), a former Democratic party smear artist, who has been arrested not once, not twice, but three times for drunk driving.

Never has the Sentinel Journal continued to remind readers over and over again of the transgressions of these privileged liberal political figures, whenever they write about them. They continue however to drag out the story and remind readers about the trouble Captain Nancy Evans, a black female, got herself into. Are you sensing the pattern here?

Their usual MO is to give license to one of their black columnists to attack me so they can hide behind them and absolve themselves of character-lynching. Today’s column didn’t follow that MO. They must be feeling there will be no blowback to a metaphorical character assassination of me using conventional methods.

The Sentinel Journal has a dilemma on its hands. They tout the value of diversity but are working overtime to get rid of the only black sheriff in the state of Wisconsin, and the only law enforcement executive of color in the Milwaukee area. It seems that diversity of thought is not acceptable to this first amendment privileged entity, and that even if it means they have to destroy a black law enforcement executive in the process, so be it. By Sentinel Journal logic liberal politics will always trump diversity.
