On Wednesday, the National Journal issued their annual ranking of the most conservative senators.

Basing their rankings primarily on voting records, the National Journal determined that Wisconsin's own Ron Johnson came in as the 5th most conservative senator. The first term senator ranked higher than other more well-known conservative senators such as Rand Paul (R-KY) and Tom Coburn (R-OK).

Senator James Risch of Idaho ranked number one among the most conservative senators. It should be noted that Sen. Johnson could be reasonably ranked 4th given that Sen. Jim Demint (ranked 3rd) retired and now works at the Heritage Foundation.
